Outerwear has always been a particular passion of mine. I feel as though outerwear is often neglected in many closets because it is seen as more of a necessity and less of a fashion piece. But the right coat or jacket can make such a statement. I especially love exploring outerwear trends while living here in the city because I can still flaunt some fun street-style even when the temps are low. I’ve chosen my top four trends that I’ve been seeing and loving lately: the Teddy Coat, the Soft Trench, Unexpected Fur, and the Bomber. Scroll below to see and shop.
This black fuzzy beauty is my #1 for the cold seasons. I always reach for it. It’s so fuzzy and unique but black so it really goes with everything. I feel like it can feel both casual and fancy at the same time – I don’t know how! It brings compliments everywhere I go + it’s super warm. I just love it. Teddy coats are a fun twist-off of faux fur. It’s such a strange texture but the fashion world just can’t get enough – I see these sell out in minutes online. I actually got mine last winter from H&M (before the teddy trend exploded) but I linked quite a few similar ones below, make sure to click through them all (and don’t hesitate to get one if you’re thinking about it – these really won’t last).
The soft trench (also known as a duster-style coat) is a true three-season staple. I wear this icy-blue piece pretty much every day of spring. I got it for my birthday in March last year, and it’s become one of my favorite gifts of all-time (it’s from Loft). I love this style in light gray, black, and cognac suede. Trench coats have been around since forever, but I really prefer this softer style that has become more popular the past few years. They usually drape really beautifully and just look amazing on anyone. Most, if not all, are belted and create a stunning silhouette for any body type. And the longer lengths look so chic and mature. What’s not to love?
Whether it’s a rich or bright color, a patchworked-design, or just a fresh silhouette, unexpected fur/ faux fur is making a huge statement this season. I’ve been seeing a lot of colored-fur stoles and lapels, as well as parkas lined with crazy colored-fur. I love it all! It’s such a luxe way to wear something so young and fun.I found this unique stole online from Saks Off 5th (and it’s Saks 5th Avenue brand), but unfortunately it’s no longer available. Yes yes, I do realize that this makes three of the four outerwear pieces I’m featuring made of fuzz… what can I say – I really can’t get enough! This bomber has quickly become one of my favorites. It’s faux fur but so so soft and great quality + the color is really rich and great with all the muted/neutral tones I wear (ordered online from Forever 21 fairly recently but it’s no longer available).The hottest bomber styles right now are of the satin and/or embroidered varieties. I linked a pretty diverse selection below as brands have been exploring with different materials and styles. My favorites below are the denim and the babe-embroidered ones.
