TFL’s Outerwear Edit is back!
Very few items in your closet get as much use and as much exposure than your coat. Especially living in the city, coats here are just as much a part of the outfit as what’s underneath. Plus a fantastic coat can either A) add extra oomph to an already spectacular outfit or B) make any ol’ outfit (say like jeans and a tee) look more intentional.
Every year there’s usually a few outerwear trends that I really adore (and wish I had one of each!), and I love to share them with you all so you can up your topper game. I recently added this amazing mustard wool topper into my wardrobe and loooove how versatile it is! Plus the color is so gorgeous and basically a neutral so it matches a good percentage of my closet.
Read on for my 2018 Outerwear Edit, featuring the top five outerwear trends/silhouettes of the season!
1. Mustard Coats
Mustard has really been having a moment lately and I’m here for it. I used to think it wasn’t wearable for my pink-ish skintone (in technical terms: a cool skintone), but I was definitely wrong because this coat is SRSLY flattering with my coloring. If you’re blue-eyed, I actually highly recommend because it really brings out my blue eyes by contrasting them so well. I also think it looks nice with my blonde/strawberry-blonde hair tones, but I think it looks really great on brunettes as well. When I was deciding on a color (I was between this color and the dark moss color), I was worried it would clash with my hair, but they actually compliment each other nicely.
I love how mustard pairs with black, denim, grey, and black & white patterns – all things I wear pretty frequently. So this has been a fantastic purchase so far! I also love when mustard is textured – it ends up looking so much richer and just really elevating the color, so the boiled wool fabric is fab.
Shop my other favorite mustard coats below, but if you like mine you can snag it right now for 30% off (with code FRIENDS)! Woohoo! (and P.S. this coat comes in 8 fabulous colors sooooo definitely make sure to check those out)
2. (Faux) Fur Moto
The fur-lined moto is still a strong favorite this season. I feel like basically every cool-girl has it by now. Usually in black, but I love it in other hues (remember my blush one? still LOVE it). It’s super cozy, looks good oversized, and transforms any outfit into a cool, model-off-duty vibe.
3. Teddy
Also another favorite that we’ve seen the last few seasons. Will the teddy trend ever end? I feel like they just keep making them better and better each year, and in new cuts/silhouettes. It’s hard not to love a teddy coat because the texture is FAB and the coziness is UNREAL.
4. Check
I stumbled upon this coat recently and felt my heart skip a beat. It’s pricey, but I mighttt just be asking for this for Xmas, haven’t decided yet. Check is something that’s just never going to go out of style, especially during these colder times. I also love a good check longline blazer-coat (included some below) – very sharp.
5. Color Blocking / Big Color Payoffs
Seeing more and more daring coats when it comes to color. It’s really fun to have a statement coat – you turn heads! And no matter what’s underneath, people will most likely assume you are a clear and confidently chic individual. I would say it’s a definitely one of the harder coats to actually shop for. I feel like this is a more “when you know, you know” type thing – but nonetheless sharing my favorite picks below, maybe one will strike your fancy 🙂
