Happy May, my fashionable friends!
It’s finally warming up, and with that comes brighter spirits and brighter colors! I have been seeing quite a lot of poppy red for springtime, and I really think it’s a great color for this season. But I’m sure its popularity will continue into summer as well.
I really just can’t get enough of this hot red-orange hue these days. Especially in the accessories department… & my nails are gonna be this color all spring/summer long.
I’ve definitely been afraid of this color for pretty much my entire lifetime (I always thought my cool skin tone could just never pull it off). But my latest color exploration-spree has been hyper-focused on this color and I’ve discovered that it’s (surprisingly) not that hard to get away with. I know a lot of you probably share my former-self’s hesitation, but hesitate no more! Push forward, be bold, introduce this punchy, head-turning color into your life! And let me help you.

When I saw this sweater in Zara, I couldn’t keep my eyes off it! Worried that I probably looked terrible in the color, I took a chance and brought it to the dressing room anyway…and was happily proved wrong! I really only pair this perfect spring sweater with denim. The blue-hue denim compliments red-orange quite beautifully, and is also a great neutral that can allow the sweater to have all the attention it deserves. Paired it with my blush/nude lace-up heels which leads me to favorite color combo of all…
Poppy + Blush. Gosh this color combo just gives me life – probably because I’m a huge fan of analogous color schemes (definition: scheme using colors that are next to each other on the color wheel). If you’re scared of pink + red, a more subtle option is tan, which I also included in my top 3 pairings. My other choice is icy blue-grey, which is a classic complimentary choice. As you probably figured out already, I would really only recommend more muted tones for styling poppy strategically.
I love love loooove this color as a handbag. Something about it just seems so badass and chic to me. I was so close to getting one the other day at a Rebecca Minkoff sample sale, but decided I needed to save my money for things I’m going to actually need soon….like furniture…..since I’m moving and have basically none… But I highly recommend incorporating this color into your wardrobe through handbags and shoes (the suede mules below are my FAVE). It’s the easiest and I think the most fun way too.
I hope you enjoy styling poppy as much as I do! Scroll below to shop some of my favorite pieces to incorporate this beautiful hue into your wardrobe this season.
