Tomorrow I leave for a little long-weekend vacay to visit family in Michigan – too excited! We have a cottage on Glen Lake (near Traverse City) with a dock and boat and I am so pumped to be kickin’ it lake style for a few days. Packing for it got me thinking about some summer essentials I wanted to share and decided to make a post about it. Below find 10 must-haves to perfect your summer weekends!
1 – Body Suit + Boyfriend Jeans
This updated version of the jeans and t-shirt combo will be your favorite ensemble that is equal parts easy and chic – you’ll wear this all too often, and no one will blame you!
WHITE STRAPPY OPEN SHOULDER BODYSUIT (Forever 21) | BLACK OPEN BACK BODYSUIT (Urban Outfitters) | RED WRAP BODYSUIT (Boohoo) | WHITE RIB KNIT JUMPSUIT (Urban Outfitters) | LIGHT PINK V NECK BODYSUIT (Express)
LIGHT DISTRESSED BF JEANS (One Teaspoon) | DISTRESSED BF JEANS WITH RAW HEM (Daisy Street) | MEDIUM WASH BF JEANS (Topshop) | LIGHT SLIM BF JEAN (BDG) |STRAIGHT BF JEANS (Abercrombie)
2 – Espadrilles
My favorite trend of this summer. I love the earthy feel to an espadrille – and those chunky styles make me go all heart-eyes-emoji. Snag a comfy pair for beach-going or city-strolling – they go great with anything!
TAN TIE LEG ESPADRILLE (Asos) | WHITE ESPADRILLE SANDALS (Marc Fisher) | SNAKESKIN ESPADRILLES (Asos) | NUDE STUDDED ESPADRILLES (Sole Society) | BLACK FLATFORM ESPADRILLES (Asos)
3 – a Sunscreen you won’t hate
A fellow NYC blogger friend of mine turned me on to this sunscreen – check out her post here. But basically it’s non-greasy, lightweight, and smells amazing – so basically all the things that sunscreen has been missing to become bearable. If you really hate sunscreen, you’ve got to try this Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless Lotion Sunscreen.
4 – Slide-on Sandal
A sort-of stylish upgrade from the flip-flop, a slide-on sandal is a good throw-on shoe to have that still looks cute.
TAN SUEDE SANDALS (Steve Madden) | SNAKESKIN AND TAN SANDALS (Park Lane) | BLACK PLATFORM SANDAL (H&M) | METALLICSILVER SANDALS (J.Crew) | ORANGE SANDALS (Franco Sarto)
5 – Beachy Waves
I just got this last week and am seriously obsessed! My hair is pretty flat and thin, I usually put a mousse in it and sometimes also a root-lifting spray before I blow dry to help give me more volume. However this stuff does both and smells insanely good! I feel like I’m walking out of the salon every time I leave my apartment. And a little goes a long way, so I recommend just getting the 1 oz version of this Bumble and Bumble Surf Foam Spray Blow Dry.
6 – Straw Tote
One of the hot ticket items this season, whether you are going to the beach, having a picnic, or just wandering-about, a straw tote is a really adorable addition to any outfit.
7 – Water Bottle
I cannot stress enough how important it is to stay hydrated – especially in the summer! Dehydration goes undetected much too often – plus the more water you drink, the healthier your skin! The benefits of drinking enough water are just insane, and let’s be honest you’ll probably be more likely to bring water with you if you have a cute carrying vessel for it, am I right?!
GOLD MONOGRAM BOTTLE (Etsy) | GOLD STARS WHITE BOTTLE (S’well) | TURQUOISE BOTTLE (Urban Outfitters) | METALLIC BLACK LID BOTTLE (Drop Bottle) | GOLD GLITTER BOTTLE (Kate Spade)
8 – White Pants
White pants are a true summer basic – they go with everything and complement a tan well. And they just have that fun, bright, fresh, crisp summer-y vibe to them.
9 – Hat
You can’t go wrong with a classic wide-brimmed floppy hat for the beach or anywhere else with a lot of sun exposure involved. Recently, I’ve been obsessed with those hats with embroidered/sequined script letters on them – specifically those Eugenia Kim ones have been taking over Instagram lately. So obsessed, in fact, that I’ll be DIY-ing one sometime this month, so keep an eye out!
10 – Cute Beach Towel
Something I haven’t splurged on because I don’t find myself at the beach too often since I stay in the city most weekends. However I’ll probably make the jump soon as I live across the street from Central Park and see many picnics in my near future…
