It’s exactly what it sounds like – a hem that has been released; the stitching removed; the excess fabric liberated. The jeans linked below are obviously manufactured this way purposely for style reasons, but this can be done on just about any pair of jeans with a normal hem (not sure if I recommend trying – I’d google that first, or just snag a pair below if you’re that interested). I have a pair from J.Crew (included below) and they have become my go-to jeans. I pretty much reach for them (+ a sweater or tee) once or twice a week on the days when I don’t feel like trying too hard. The classic release hem is a more understated trend that’s fun and different but not too crazy. Plus I love the sort-of ombré look it has going on.
See above; but add in some drama. I love how they look like they were dip-dyed, that’s always been a favorite detail of mine. These are just a fun, sort-of mod look that make much more of a statement than an everyday jean.
Also known as the high-low hem or the mullet hem, the step hem is certainly an interesting one. I think these just look absolutely amazing with a pair of pretty pumps, especially pointy-toe. I personally think this style should really only be dressed up when it comes to styling (for work anyway). These jeans create an amazing juxtaposition when paired with super polished pieces.
The cut-offs are back, baby! A lottttt of jeans have that look where someone just took some scissors and snipped the bottoms of their jeans right off (maybe even a bit aggressively for some pairs); no hem, just good ol’ raw edge. These usually crop a little higher; the ones I have do and I like this because it’s easier to wear/show-off any shoes that wrap up my ankle or my booties that come up a bit higher. These throw off a cool-girl vibe without being too crazy. And they arewayeasy to DIY; literally just cut any pair and then wash them to get a little fray goin’!
My favorite pair of jeans this season (and also by far the most complimented) are my long fringe hem jeans. I love to wear them with my simple, classic, black suede, single soled, block heels – see my first post featuring these jeans + those shoeshere
. This style really is a showstopper, they are just so fun. I think they really show off personality; you aren’t going to find a boring person in a pair of long fringe hem jeans, ya just aren’t! Dress ’em up, dress ’em down – just be sure to always stay polished with this style since you are basically wearing jeans that look like you’ve been stranded on an island for quite some time… 🙂
