Stuck inside? This polar vortex is inspiring this post! But whether it be for weather reasons or just lazy reasons, we all need that precious couch time! Read on for my latest tv loves, all VERY binge-worthy.
and BTW – I’m always looking for my next binge – would love to hear all of your favorites! Comment below so I can spend even more time in my beloved time in my apartment and escape these below zero temps 🤓
1. The Complex Mystery: True Detective on HBO
Season 1 is one of the most compelling and complex stories I’ve seen in a long time. It’s definitely a HUGE “page-turner” – what’s the tv show equivalent of this phrase? Next-episode-clicker? Anyway, you will not want to step away from your tv.
This is definitely not for the faint of heart when it comes to the horrors of crime. I don’t remember much gore but it’s really just having to face the reality of sick criminal acts that will certainly hit you deep. If you’re fine with this, True Detective is a must-watch.
The way the story is told is incredibly innovative with its multiple timelines. The character backgrounds are insanely deep and feel so authentic and raw. Both casting and acting is ridiculously well-done.
Season 2? I ended up skipping based on the entire internet/general public’s opinion. Honestly, after I finished season 1, I wasn’t surprised because I truly couldn’t imagine what could top it. I’m sure I’ll watch it eventually but decided to skip to season 3 since it has several episodes out currently (I think 4?) and I heard good things. And I can confidently say season 3 is also in the high ranks with season 1!
Don’t have HBO? Get a free one-week trial, don’t worry you’ll only need 2-3 days to finish season 1 and will most definitely put off any other responsibilities that might keep you from clicking “next episode.
2. The Drama Thriller: Killing Eve on Hulu
Another excellent show associated with murder! Aren’t those just the best? 😉
I’ve technically already posted about this last week on my End of Week Edit #30 – but it absolutely needs to be included here too! I think this show could really appeal to anyone. It’s spy-related, action-packed, not too much gore, and also very complex.
The protagonist is played by Sandra Oh (she’s from Grey’s Anatomy, but this show is NOTHING like that show haha) and her performance is incredible, and her character is soooo interesting. You’ll find yourself wondering what the heck is going on in her head and it’ll keep you on your toes, for sure!
And the antagonist character is delightfully convoluted, and her fashion sense is prime so that always helps add another interest to a show for me.
3. The Reality Gold: Instant Hotel on Netflix
Ok so we’re doing a total 180 from the above two, as this show is reality and something that requires much less focus and attention. If you go to the bathroom, you probably won’t require your SO to pause it.
BUT with that said, still VERY binge-worthy! It’s basically a “who’s got the best Airbnb?” competition. Couples/teams of 2 travel across Australia to visit eachother’s Airbnbs and rate them based on several categories.
There’s of course drama and interesting personalities amongst the contestants that add another dimension to the show. But it’s also just really cool to see all these different properties and what all goes into having the perfect “instant hotel.” Basically – you come for the pretty vacation homes, and stay for the the shade.
