Lately, I’ve seen a lot of content and have felt like there’s been a pretty big push for air-drying hair routines/techniques. This hasn’t really changed much of my personal routine since I’ve actually been air-drying my hair most of my life since I can remember…. literally. (I mean – we all air-dried at one point in our lives! haha) Below I share my fine, flat hair story plus the 5 easy steps I do to still give it a little volume without using any heat.
I was pretty “lucky” in high school because I have naturally straight and pretty flat hair. And this was so great back then because I never had those frizzy hair issues that a lot of high schoolers didn’t/don’t know how to deal with (and it was also back when straight hair was super “in”). However, now it’s become one of my greatest beauty conquests because it is SO HARD to get any sort of volume in my hair. Sometimes I will blow-dry my roots for maybe 3 minutes to help with this issue and give a little lift. But usually (like 9 out of 10 times) my laziness takes precedence and I run out of my apartment with hair that’s about 85% wet from my shower that morning (I guess that’s where my 45 minute+ commute comes in handy? It’s usually just about dry by the time I get to work).
But anyways, I do believe I have pretty much perfected my air-dry routine for my fine, flat, (lifeless), naturally-straight hair to give it the most volume it could have without blow drying it or using product that feels heavy or is a lot of maintenance. I’m all about ease, but also I haven’t even mentioned that air-drying is the best thing you can do for your hair health and honestly we should all be cutting down on heat products if we are striving for that effortless, natural beauty (which – who isn’t??).
So on the (90% of) mornings where I wash my hair, my air-dry steps are the following…
