Hey, I’m Caroline.
and welcome to The Freckled Life!
It’s my favorite side hustle and hopefully a place you’ll ultimately come to find daily inspiration. Here I talk style, beauty, home décor, holiday and gifting (FYI – I looove to create gift guides), and my overall LA lifestyle. Scroll below for some Q&A if you’re looking to know a little more behind the freckled brand.
who are ya?
I’m a 28-years-young graphic designer living and working in LA. I’m originally from Fairfax, VA right outside DC. I moved to NYC immediately after college and spent roughly 5 years living there, then lost my job in March 2020 and had a brief stint in my parents guest room before finding another job out in LA and moving to LA in January 2021.
On Monday through Friday from 9-6, I am a graphic designer for a fashion retailer and I absolutely love it! My day-to-day involves designing e-mails, catalogues, and any other creative print/digital assets a retailer could need. It’s a lot of type and layout design which I consider my true passion (besides shopping, I suppose!), so it feels pretty good to be doing exactly what I love.
I also run another side hustle that I started during my brief period of unemployment in 2020: Freckle + Chain. FRECKLE + CHAIN is my small e-commerce business where I create and curate contemporary, refined, and, most importantly, affordable goods – it’s a handmade kind of chic.
why did you start the freckled life?
I’m fashion, trend, and research obsessed, and created The Freckled Life to put all that to good use. I aspire to streamline but also enhance and inspire the style-seeking twenty/ thirty something’s shopping experience.
I’ve always had a passion for style, shopping, finding the best deals, and honestly pretty much any area of life where I could express my style and personal aesthetic (i.e. beauty, home décor, entertaining, etc.) – and after I realized that not many people were quite like that (to my crazy obsessive extent), I felt it was time to share my point of view.
what’s the deal behind the name?
Before I even decided to start the blog, when I was sort of just fiddling around with the idea in my head, the name The Freckled Life literally just popped into my brain one morning and really sparked the official beginning. I just adored the name and knew I had to make it real life, so I started planning and about a month later, my site was live!
I love the name because it’s generic enough to take it wherever I want to (like not just fashion or beauty or something, it could be anything), yet it’s unique enough to (hopefully) remember as far as building a brand and readership goes AND it represents a physical feature that I have always been identified with.
And on an even more personal level, for a decent period of my life I really wasn’t the hugest fan of my freckles and always admired (and dreamt of having) a clean, freckle-less complexion. I’d say about halfway through college, I really started to accept the little spots and embrace their true beauty. And this blog is a place where (I hope) my readers can feel honesty and down-to-earth vibes and learn to embrace their own natural beauty. Style is about complimenting the true you! Not hiding or creating someone you wish you were.
who takes your pictures?
Any picture that I’m not in, I’m the one behind the lens (either with my iPhone or my Canon 6D). Pictures of me I subject my boyfriend to taking… he’s a good sport 😅
how long have you been doing this?
I started in April 2016.
where do you see this going?
Not sure! I definitely hope to grow this as much as humanly possible (while also having a full-time job), we’ll see how far it goes. I have daydreams about expanding to write about married life and then eventually mommy life (but who knows when that’ll be!). + of course I have daydreams about the full-time blogger life, but I’m a long way from that point! It is fun to think about how that is the ultimate goal that I’m working towards, and keeping it as a distant (but not too distant) destination.
thanks for tagging along!
