Cognac is a fairly easy color to work with, I think it looks great on all skin tones. It pairs best with blues ,and looks amazing with white/light grey and black. My favorite outfits that I’ve seen with this texture have been very simple and very chic – usually just a brown suede skirt/jacket/or pants with a chunky grey or cream sweater, a black & white top, or jeans/a jean jacket. It also looks amazing paired with tight deep black jeans or really lightwash distressed BF jeans.
There are two really hot items right now that are both trending in suede – (1) the moto jacket and (2) the soft trench. I’ve linked a few of each below. They are both very classic pieces that you will wear forever and ever – a great investment staple if you’re trying to justify a real suede price tag.Happy November! I was inspired for this month’s hue by my favorite piece of my summer closet – these shoes (below). They were my go-to all season, and I am very sad putting them away for the cold weather. Every time I put these on, I felt like the cognac suede really amped up the luxe factor of the outfit. Now suede certainly isn’t profound for fall fashion – but I think cognac suede specifically is having a moment right now. Most noticeably among the designer world is Chloé – their bags and shoes come in a beautiful cognac suede that is all over the streets right now.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with faux suede though, especially if you aren’t 100% sure about it. I have a black faux suede jacket from H&M and it looks and feels amazing, extremely close to real suede. In fact, I wear it with my over-the-knee (real) suede Stuart Weitzman boots and they look great together. I definitely recommend shopping in person for faux suede, sometimes in can get a bit shiny which screams cheaply made. I prefer faux suede, too, because I live in the city and anything can happen (especially on the subway) You should see me in my Stuart boots on the subway – eyes darting every which way, if anyone comes near my feet, I flinch. It’s dangerous having nice things!
