Get ready to say goodnight to dullness and good morning to glow…
Resurfacing, it’s all the rage right now! Ever heard of it? It’s basically the process of speeding up skin cell regeneration, which helps reduce the appearance of pores, wrinkles, fine lines, and visible scars and helps clear up acne faster. And regularly using a product that focus on resurfacing overall improves your skin’s health in the long run because it helps train your skin to regenerate quicker (which is a very good thing 👍).
And now let me introduce you to a product that does a more than excellent job at this: Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel!
You might’ve heard me rave about this product on Insta stories a few times in the past couple weeks and I’ve been meaning to write a post about it for a while so I can share all the goodness it provides – well here it finally is….BUT FIRST A CHANCE TO WIN ONE!

So what does this “peel” do?
Well first of all, don’t be alarmed by the word “peel” because your skin will not peel off haha. The name is a little deceiving (hence my title of this article – the no-peel peel) but this is really just a light exfoliating product that helps to reveal a smoother, more bright complexion and help break down (on a more cellular level) the dull and dead layers of the skin. Another misconception is that it’s a peel-off product – it is not a peel-off product, it’s a leave-on-overnight product.
This peel:
- promotes cellular turnover for a smoother complexion
- boosts overall clarity and radiance
- reduces the appearance of fine lines
- minimizes the appearance of pores
- and evens skin tone and reduces the appearance of dark spots!
It’s amazing!
So personally, my favorite thing about the product is how gentle it is. I’ve tried a couple products with resurfacing acids – and they’ve all upset my sensitive skin except for this one. I think the reason is because it has more soothing acids than most resurfacing products (including Drunk Elephant’s TLC Sukari Babyfacial).
And FYI – this product is a LOT safer than most peels out there. Beautycounter’s peel is formulated without synthetic fragrances, PEGs and formaldehyde releasing preservatives commonly found in other peels. Many peels use high levels of resurfacing acids that can cause irritation. This peel uses a combination of both resurfacing acids and soothing acids that hydrate, replenish and protect skin. This combination of acids optimizes performance while maintaining the right PH level to not cause irritation.
The ingredients that make this product so life-changing:
The Resurfacing Acids:
Glycolic Acid: This is the golden child of acids for exfoliation, effectively removing the outermost layer of dead cells from the complexion, revealing a brighter, smoother complexion.
Lactic Acid: Typically derived from milk, but this is derived from sugar cane (somehow!) making this product vegan! This acid stimulates cell renewal promoting smoother, brighter, younger-looking skin. It’s an effective choice for sensitive types since it helps keep moisture in and irritants out.
Malic Acid: Sourced primarily from apples, this acid offers some of the same anti-aging benefits as lactic acid, but it’s considerably more mild, and helps decrease the appearance of fine lines.
Phytic Acid: A natural antioxidant compound found in rice and other plant seeds and has the unique added ability to prevent discoloration before it appears.
Tartaric Acid: Comes from fermented grapes (AKA: wine! yes, you are putting wine on your face, so that’s like really cool) and is added to glycolic or lactic acid formulas to strengthen their sloughing and keep pH levels stable, which helps prevent irritation.
Citric Acid: Similar to tartaric, citric acid, an acid found primarily in lemons and limes, also keeps other acids within a safe pH range. Citric acid is also a chelator, which means it eliminates irritating impurities on the skin. It helps even skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots.
Salicylic Acid: If you’re acne-prone, you’ve surely heard of this one! This acid helps dissolve the type of skin debris that clogs pores and causes acne. It’s best for treating blackheads and whiteheads.
The Soothing Acids:
Hyaluronic Acid: You might’ve heard a lot about this acid recently – lots of articles going around about this magical ingredient. It’s most well-known for its mega moisture abilities. This acid hydrates skin and helps it retain moisture.
Fatty Acids: Including omegas 3 & 6, maintain skin’s barrier to prevent moisture loss, smooth skin, and provide antioxidant benefits.
Chlorogenic Acid: This is packed with powerful antioxidants that work to stop free radicals that damage your skin.
More FAQ’s:
How do I use the peel?
This product is a leave-on, nighttime treatment. Apply 1-2 pumps to a clean face and neck 3-4 times per week. It might tingle upon application (that’s totally okay and normal). Allow it to fully absorb (takes like 3 minutes), follow with moisturizer. An oil can be used after the peel, though a moisturizer is recommended to maximize the peel’s effectiveness. Leave the peel on overnight, it will absorb into skin. Follow your usual skin care routine in the morning.
What is the order of application for the peel?
I recommend using it about 3 times a week (probably no more than that!) and an example regimen that includes the peel would be:
AM: Cleanse, Tone, Serum, Eye Cream, Moisturizer/Oil, Sunscreen
PM: Cleanse, Tone, Peel, Eye Cream, Moisturizer
Can I use the peel if I have acne-prone skin?
The peel is safe for people with acne-prone skin. However, if someone is using a prescription acne treatment, it’s recommended that they check with their dermatologist before using this product.
Is the peel right for dry skin types?
If you have dry skin, follow the peel with a moisturizer and make sure you moisturize well the following morning. Start by using the product once a week, then twice a week, then every other night to see what’s best for you, customizing your routine for the best results.
How long do I need to use the peel before I start seeing results?
Most people start to see benefits after just one use. It’s strongly recommend to use it as part of your skin care routine for several weeks to see maximum results.
